Rahul Gandhi hopes Odisha, AP govts ready for Cyclone Titli
New Delhi: Congress chief Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday hoped the governments of Odisha and Andhra Pradesh are ready to handle the situation arising out of Cyclone Titli which was moving towards the coastal areas of the states.
The deep depression over the Bay of Bengal has now intensified further into a tropical cyclonic storm named ‘Titli’.
It is moving towards the Odisha-Andhra Pradesh coast, said the India Meteorological Department in a special bulletin on Tuesday.
The cyclone, which is likely to make landfall between Gopalpur and Kalingapatnam early on Thursday morning and may trigger heavy rain accompanied by strong winds blowing at 125kmph.
Rahul also urged Congress workers to rise to occasion and help fellow countrymen that might be affected due to the cyclone.
"I hope the state governments and the administration are ready to handle the situation. The Congress workers are requested to stand with their countrymen in this time of need and face it bravely," he added.
Reportedly, this is the second cyclonic storm formed over the Bay of Bengal and hitting the east coast this year. The first one, named Daye, hit Odisha and northern Andhra Pradesh last month.
