Rakesh Chandel, had gone to Sector 25 to distribute Diwali gifts on Tuesday and was returning home when his car suddenly caught fire.

According to Chandel, he observed some noise coming from the engine and hence he stopped to check what was wrong with the car. Even after thoroughly checking, he didn't detect any problem with the engine and he carried on with his ride. While he was driving towards the flyover, within seconds the car started making similar sounds. The car caught fire and the driver jumped out.

"I got down from the car again and opened the car bonnet but I was unable to detect the problem. I again started and as I reached the flyover, there is a sound of flames. I tried to apply brakes but it was not working. I jumped out of the car. Though I applied hand brakes but the car didn’t stop,” he added.

Meanwhile, I informed police control room and fire station to report the incident. A PCR reached the spot within minutes but they failed to stop the car, Chandel informed.
