BJP chief to meet Badal, sports legends in Chandigarh
Chandigarh: BJP president Amit Shah will meet Akali patriarch Parkash Singh Badal and two sports legends here tomorrow as part of his party's 'Sampark se Samarthan' initiative which is aimed at highlighting the Modi government's achievements and soliciting support in the run up to the the 2019 general election.
Shah will visit the residence of Badal in the city tomorrow, SAD leader Daljeet Singh Cheema said here today adding the BJP chief will be meeting senior Akali Dal leaders.
Shah will travel to the residences of hockey player Balbir Singh and legendary athlete Milkha Singh and meet them, a BJP spokesman said here.
The BJP president will also visit a Sikh shrine in Sector 34, he said.
Meanwhile, Punjab Congress chief Sunil Jakhar took a pot shot saying the meeting with Shah was a "golden opportunity" for the Akalis to "make amends".
He asked Akali leaders to raise issues relating to farmers, the SYL canal and escalating fuel prices with Shah.
As a senior and seasoned leader, Badal should also raise the pendency of the post-matric scholarship with the central government, Jakhar said.
In August last year, Shah was on a three-day visit to Haryana. He had held series of meetings and reviewed works undertaken by the M L Khattar government during his stay.
The BJP chief had also visited Chandigarh in May last year.
