Chandigarh: With increasing cases of sexual assault, the shocking case of 30, 000 girls being used as 'honeymoon brides' have led to widespread outrage in the country. According to reports, the Punjabi girls were married to NRIs who stranded them, a few years after their marriage.
Seeking the help of Delhi Sikh Gurudwara, the women narrated the tale of deception that they were a part of.
Narrating her heart-wrenching tale, a woman who got married to an NRI 9 years back said, "After 8 years of married life, when my husband went out of the country, I was pushed out of my husband's place."
The lady further added that she is not the only one to be duped. According to her, a lot of women have been through the same thing.
Further blaming the government of knowng it all she said, "Despite knowing it, the government does not react."
The Delhi Sikh Gurudwara committee has assured the ladies of help. The committee further assured to establish an advisory committee under which all the Gurudwaras will be advised to perform police verification of NRI grooms before performing marriage ceremony.
Issuing look out circular (LOC), no action has been taken regarding the issue which shows the lack of coordination among state and central government, said the committee member.
