There were excitable scenes at a top city hotel on Thursday as a selection of competitors arrived for a media event – the first of many in the coming weeks.
Among the contestants are a top-flight athlete; Miss Universe's first ever transgender competitor; and the first ever indigenous woman to win her country's title.Read: Famous Dresden Christmas market opens for business
This will be the 67th pageant, and the third time it's been held in Thailand. The event – televised worldwide - will be hosted by five-time Emmy Award-winner Steve Harvey.
At a news conference in front of a mass of media, some of the women who'll compete for the title spoke of their excitement of being in Thailand and at the prospect of the weeks ahead.
The winner will be chosen at the end of a live three-hour TV extravanganza on December 17.
